Leonard (Ram Lev) and Jenness Perlmutter, founders and directors
Leonard (Ram Lev) and Jenness Perlmutter have been students of Yoga Science since 1975 and are founders of the American Meditation Institute in Averill Park, NY. Leonard is the author and editor of "Transformation," the journal of Yoga Science as mind-body medicine. His book, "The Heart and Science of Yoga: A Blueprint for Peace, Happiness and Freedom from Fear" has received six major book of the year awards including Benjamin Franklin, ForeWord Magazine, Independent Publisher Book Awards, Eric Hoffer Awards and Nautilus Book Awards. Leonard and Jenness have served on the faculties of the New England Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts and the International Himalayan Yoga Teachers Association in Calgary, Canada. Both have studied in India under holistic mind-body medicine pioneer Swami Rama of the Himalayas. Mr. Perlmutter serves as an Adjunct Professor at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York where he teaches yoga and meditation. His many writings and all his seminars are enlivened by his inspiring enthusiasm, vast experience, humor and clear teaching style. Jenness is a graduate of the Herron School of Art and attended the Art Students League of New York. She is an internationally renowned painter.
Since 1996 Leonard has presented the AMI teaching of mind-body medicine to staff and students at many venues throughout the country including: M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, Albany Medical Center, Albany Medical College, Stratton VA Hospital, University of Colorado Medical School, University of Wisconsin School of Nursing, Washington University Medical School, The Commonwealth Club of California and the West Point Association of Graduates. He also served on a distinguished New York Times panel of Yoga experts with Dean Ornish, MD and Lilias Folan. Leonard’s “Heart and Science of Yoga” course has been certified by the Albany Medical College, American Medical Association, the New York State Nurses Association and American Nurses Association for continuing medical education credit.
