Leonard Perlmutter |

Leonard is the founder of the American Meditation Institute for Yoga Science and Philosophy in Averill Park, New York. He currently serves as a Spiritual Director of the Institute. Mr. Perlmutter is the author and editor of the monthly philosophical newsletter Transformation. His recent book The Heart and Science of Yoga: A Blueprint for Peace, Happiness and Freedom from Fear has received six major book of the year accolades including the Benjamin Franklin, ForeWord Magazine, Independent Publisher Book Awards, Eric Hoffer Awards and Nautilus Book Awards. Over the past thirty-one years, Leonard has served on the faculties of the New England Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts and the International Himalayan Yoga Teacher Association in Calgary, Canada. He has studied in Rishikesh, India and is a direct disciple of Shri Swami Rama of the Himalayas. Mr. Perlmutter serves as an Adjunct Professor at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York where he teaches yoga and meditation. His many writings and all his seminars are enlivened by his inspiring enthusiasm, vast experience, humor and clear teaching style. Since 1995 Leonard has presented the AMI teaching to over 1,200 people at venues including: M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Albany Medical Center, University of Colorado Medical School, University of Wisconsin School of Nursing, Washington University Medical School and The Commonwealth Club of California. He also served on a distinguished New York Times Yoga panel with Dr. Dean Ornish and Lilias Folan. His courses on Yoga Science have been endorsed by the New York State Nurses Association for continuing education credit.
