| Dear
Care-Giver,
Let's be honest. You
often pay a high price for the stress you experience in the workplace. You
may feel your performance is negatively affected by various unavoidable
experiences during your work day. This can lead to feelings of anger,
resentment, guilt, and worry-- emotions that carry over into your personal
time--causing insomnia, exhaustion and stress-related illnesses. You may
frequently feel that as a caregiver, you are the one who needs to
be cared for. You need to take "time-out" for yourself.
1. This Caring for the
Care-Giver workshop will be part lecture and part practicum. You will
receive a comprehensive survey of the complementary therapies of
traditional meditation and yoga science to increase your energy, focus,
memory, creativity and compassion--while decreasing stress, anxiety and
blood pressure. These practices strengthen the immune system and can
empower you to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.
2. By attending this
course and establishing a regular meditation practice, you will experience
a reduction in tension headaches, neck, shoulder and lower back pain, and
insomnia. You will discover how to feel more at peace with yourself, learn
to think more clearly, and feel more optimistic, as you become more
tolerant and self-assured.
3. Many of the skills I
will teach you can be shared with your patients. Current trends in
healthcare are focused on integrating conventional care with complementary
and alternative therapies. The meditation and visualization techniques
offered in this course will equip you with powerful, progressive muscle
relaxation techniques that can help ease the emotional responses to
chronic pain or discomfort.
4. Learning meditation
techniques will enable you to maintain a one-pointed focus of attention.
These skills will help you conserve energy and concentrate on
understanding specific patient needs with greater precision and more
compassion. Learn about the physical, mental and emotional benefits of
diaphragmatic breathing, and you will be able to instruct patients in
simple breathing techniques. These easy practices can reduce blood
pressure, moderate heart and respiratory rates in cardiovascular patients,
and skillfully manage the debilitating effects of pain, fear and anxiety
surrounding treatment modalities for cancer patients.
5. Learning contemplation
techniques will make you a better listener, as well as a more effective
care provider. You will be prepared to help your patients successfully
cope with the emotional impact of their illness, allowing them a feeling
of more self-control.
6. You will learn the
meaning of mantra science; how to employ your own personal mantra from the
tradition of your choice; a comfortable method for sitting in
meditation; an easy, systematic procedure for meditation; how breath
effects your physical, mental and emotional well being; the major
functions of the mind; and easy-gentle stretches to benefit your muscles,
nerves, joints, glands and internal organs. You will receive a FREE copy
of my award-winning book The Heart and Science of Yoga, a
"Guided Meditation" CD and a free subscription to AMI's Transformation
magazine.
I hope you will join me on June 7th.
Best regards,
LEONARD PERLMUTTER
